((Note: This thread is marked as open because, OOC, I'm okay with the occasional comment if your character has a strong enough reason for it. IC, Mica will probably get a little frustrated if people interrupt his personal log!))
Well, the start of a new session seems like a good time to start a log of my experiences. I would have done so last time, but I was so caught up in the newness of replayer networks and guides!
This time around, I'm a Bane of Doom on the Land of Bones and Dust. Now isn't that spooky and ominous! And it's got me theorizing that new titles might are assigned based on your state of mind as you enter the door. As we stood in front of the door at end of my last session, I... really didn't want it to have to end and force us all to move on to yet more games. I've... mostly gotten over the strong emotions I was feeling about it at the time, thanks to finding some interesting new things to think about, but I'm still going to have to be a champion of the aspect that's all about things ending in order to make room for new growth. It is a little frustrating, that the game is so quick to try to crush down my desire to grow freely and not be doomed to this neverending cycle. It has a lot of nerve to try to force me to be content with filling its predetermined roles and playing out everything the way it wants me to.
That aside, I'm really glad to be on Derse again! Lands vary wildly, but the elegant purple and black is always comfortingly the same. And now I know about some more places to check out thanks to HT's guide; that will be exciting!
My main area of focus this session is going to be majyyk, also learned about from one of HT's guides. No more relying solely on generic zappy lights for me; I'm going to research shadow majyyk on Derse, explore ruins for aspect majyyk inspiration, and play with the alchemiter to see if I can get some more varied effects. I'll be a proper wizard yet!
I'm also interested in finding some more information about the Others, but that's better done online with corruption filters than in person. Everyone seems to be so concerned that something's going to happen to me--it was sweet at first, but after half a dozen people nagging me it's getting fairly annoying! I'm being careful; there's really no reason to worry. I even whipped myself up a voidshake just to be safe, though I decided not to drink it just yet since it would be a waste of grist on someone who's not corrupted. I'll keep it on hand as a failsafe, so even if I do manage to slip up and get a little corrupted, I can deal with it immediately.
Time to go out and explore a little, brush up on the new land's lore. There really are an awful lot of bones lying around; I wonder if I could use Doom aspect majyyk to create some facsimile of necromancy?

SHADOW MAJYYK GUIDE
Well, I've spent pretty much all my time so far this session working on expanding my majyykal prowess, so I figured I'd do a little writeup on it! First off, though, I would recommend reading HT's guide, which is what got me started: sburbunofficial.proboards.com/post/11218
Working with this stuff is really quite easy if you ask me! Though, as it is Dersite majyyk (and I am a native and current Derse dreamer), and HT mentions that it also tends to be favored by Law, Doom, and Doubt players (I am natively Law and currently Doom) and requires prior majyykal experience (which I have), I may have just been unusually primed for it.
It is true that it's not as powerful as many aspect powers or mid- to late-game alchemized weaponry, but it's very interesting to use, and I think the fact that one's ability and knowledge of it rolls over between sessions will make it quite worth it.
If you'd like to try using Dersite shadow majyyk yourself, I would recommend starting by building up some experience with simpler majyyks, typically achieved by alchemizing magic wands, staves, etc.; basically, anything you could picture someone using to cast magic. All such weapons will have different abilities depending on what's alchemized into them; experiment! This is HT's guide on majyykal basics, definitely worth a read. Once you've gotten the hang of using majyyk and using it to fight feels like second nature, you may be ready to try out some shadow majyyk!
To learn shadow majyyk, you will most likely need to be a Derse dreamer, or somehow have extensive access to Derse in some other way. The libraries, Deranged Archmage/Demented Arcanist/DA, and Resentful Notary/Rancorous Noblewoman/RN all have the basic tomes you'll need to get started. I think each of them has some unique ones that the others don't, but you won't work your way up to those until later anyways.
---
First, I'll go over the basic spells HT mentioned in his guide, and then go into more detail about the other ones that I've discovered. These are just my comments on the spells; go look at the other guide for their full descriptions!
[Shadowflame]: Very fun to use, makes fire a really pretty shade of purple! It's slightly boosted the effectiveness of my Staff of Fire.
[Cut the Lights]: Ooh, this is great to use to recharge between battles! Some people may find the darkness it plunges you into a little spooky, but if you've got some experience being blind it'll be nothing.
[Darkness Wear]: Honestly I haven't found any reason to use this yet, so I haven't wasted the pluck. There's cooler spells to focus on!
[Shadowbolt]: Fairly weak on its own as far as attacks go, but it makes a great combo attack with a blast from my Staff of Fire.
[Shadowboxing]: Sadly I haven't been able to use this one yet, since it requires more than one person.
[Shade Shield]: I'd never thought to try using shielding magic before, but this is great! I've been taking noticeably less damage.
[Unholy Word]: This spell is pretty cool in general, but knowing the stuff I'm shouting sounds similar to broodfester words for desserts makes it just hilarious! I'll have to be careful to not use this around my coplayers, though. Even though it's a totally harmless, non-corruption-related spell, they'll probably jump to conclusions and think I've become a Speaker or something just because I'm attacking some imps by shouting "apple pie" in pseudo-broodfester. Honestly, they're so paranoid! Interest in shadow majyyk does not a corrupted player make!
[Blade of Edges]: With the [Shade Shield] helping me take less damage and the lifedrain effect of [Blade of Edges], I've been needing a lot less healing than usual. I think it's also doing wonders for my ARC; life draining is pretty Doom-y!
---
I was able to get the hang of all of those fairly quickly thanks to HT's guide, with maybe about an hour or two spent practicing each of them. They're all pretty simple spells after all; not a whole lot of power to them. After working my way through the ones I already knew about, I got together a big collection of tomes from DA and did some mail quests so that I could have them shipped to my realself on LOBAD (fortunately Dersite mail quests are much less deadly than Prospitian ones, and you only need to do the first 4 to unlock the ability to send mail).
[Fill ‘Em With Midnight]: This spell makes your weapon sound like you alchemized it with an instrument, giving off jazzy tunes whenever you use it. It gives a miniscule damage buff that's essentially useless, but I believe the effects may be amplified if used in conjuncture with a fraymotif, or in an ensemble of people also using the spell.
[Blue Noir]: It took a little while to figure out what this one even does since I don't do melee combat, but apparently it turns your target's blood blue? It didn't work when I tried it on myself, but it works on underlings and consorts (I used it on a consort that had tripped and hurt itself, I would never injure one myself!!), so I think it would work on other game-created beings like carapaces and maybe even Denizens. The only practical effect it seems to have is making weapons that would normally bruise cut instead, and weapons that would normally cut bruise. So for instance, a tennis ball fired at a high enough velocity would go straight through an enemy like a bullet, and getting stabbed with a knife would be like getting hit with a club. Yeah, don't ask me how it works.
[Hearts Flush]: This... increases your kismettle? I'll be honest, I have no idea what that's good for.
[Knives and Ivory]: This one is so cool!! It summons a whole bunch of shiny black knives that hover around you and then all fly to stab something when you direct them to.
[Summon Wraith]: Based on the name, I thought this one would summon some sort of badass dark ghost thing to fight for you, but what it actual summons is... a weasel wraith. Just a neurotic little shadowy weasel with bat wings. I have no idea what you could use this for.
[Hollow Suit]: This spell creates shadowy armor around you that's sort of similar to a [Shade Shield]! It doesn't really absorb more damage than [Shade Shield], but it provides better coverage.
[Lunar Eclipse]: This spell messes with Derse's orbital speed to trigger a premature eclipse, yikes! I'm glad I decided to practice these spells on LOBAD instead of Derse, or I could've gotten a nasty dose of Furthest Ring exposure. Could theoretically be used on Prospit, too.
[Cuestick Genius]: Lets you know your Carbon Nadsat number without having to go to the House of Mirror. Your Carbon Nadsat number doesn't really have a purpose, so neither does this spell. Blah.
[Shadow Transformation]: Seems to be sort of an upgraded [Darkness Wear], except it can make any game-created being appear Dersite, and make them think that they're Dersite if they have intrinsic Dersite-leaning attitudes (which is useless because the only in-game beings with Dersite-leaning attitudes are Dersites). It can also be used on objects, though it doesn't give them a buff, it just makes them black and shiny and cool-looking.
[Ace of Trump]: I thought this would be some sort of powerful final attack, but no, what it does is enchant a playing card with the ability to transform into some sort of container, or a container with the ability to transform into a playing card. It would be really useful, except that sylladexes are more useful.
[Moonshine]: A buff that corresponds positively with how close you are to Derse. If you were on Derse it would probably be powerful, but on a typical player planet it ranges from weak to mild.
[Tall, Dark, and Loathesome]: Er... It appears to be another variant of [Darkness Wear] and [Shadow Transformation] that also makes the target more attractive to Dersites. Take that as you will.
[Midnight Gospel Act]: Um... This tome's got some words that I think are in actual broodfester, not just the pseudo-broodfester [Unholy Word] uses, so I'm going to leave it alone for now. I guess that HT's guide did say that, while shadow majyyk isn't inherently corruption-related, it can have overlap with corrupted majyyk...
[Livin’ It Up]: Ohh, this one is so useful!! It can stack with [Cut the Lights] to increase recharge rates, or with [Blade of Edges] to increase the amount of life you drain from opponents.
[Drawing Dead]: Oh man I can practically feel the Doom ARC bonuses this one is giving me! If you draw this sigil on an underling and then kill it, instead of disappearing, its corpse remains and is under your control. Of course, you can only have one corpse under your control at a time, and it loses its prototyping bonuses since it's not registered by the game as an underling anymore, so it retains only a fraction of the power it had when alive; I think imps affected by [Drawing Dead] are actually weaker than the weasel wraith. It's still cool, though!
---
So, that's all that I've discovered so far! Shadow majyyk is pretty great; I don't regret dedicating so much time to working with it. It certainly seems more worthwhile than all those crappy land quests that won't mean anything once the session is over! It'll probably take a little while to find more tomes with new spells, since I already got all the low-hanging fruit; maybe I can get WA to send me some of her information on this stuff.

Dude you have got to teach me [Fill 'Em With Midnight]! Combine that with my trumpetkind specibus and I think you could get some interesting results, especially with my current Dream aspect! (I guess this is my cue to go alchemise an old wand with an onyx trumpet I managed to make....
Also I might experiment with majyks and music sometime soon. The way fray motifs work has given me a couple of ideas with how to proceed.

Um, sorry Ben, but I don't think I'm going to be working with shadow majyyk again anytime soon... I'm--I'm still not really sure what made me start to get corrupted, but all I was really doing at the time was shadow majyyk, so... There's a chance that some part of what I was working with had corruptive influences seeded in it that I was just really susceptible to, so I'd... rather not risk it again...
Hope that amuses you, KM. No more messing with majyyk or anything else WA has information on because I almost went grimdark and tried to kill all my friends, how amusing it is to watch hubris fail, right?
Honestly you guys aren't even supposed to be commenting on this thread, it's my private log!!
Anyways, now I'm going to use my log to write about some thoughts.

"Bait"
Okay, so for some reason people have almost unanimously decided to start referring to me as "bait"?? I've gotten "corruptionbait," "tentaclebait," "squidbait," "generic bait," "cutesy bait," "cute bait," "the bait of the decitimestamp," and just general "bait." At first it just seemed like part of the teasing about how I was making myself an easy target for corruption, but I feel like it's continued on from that into more of a general thing?? Like they're saying I'm a target for everyone. And people keep mentioning how "cute" I supposedly am, and HT said something about other people "toying with" and "hunting" me. It's like I've somehow gotten a reputation as someone that everyone is after for some reason or another???
But I'm so confused, because I haven't noticed anything like that happening at all!! As far as I'm aware, no one has any sort of interest in me outside of maybe wanting to be my friend, except for WA and her creepy obsession with getting into my pants and taking naked pictures of me. And... I guess HT, since he wants naked pictures of me too, and has just dropped so many hints about wanting me that I can't really pretend that he doesn't anymore. Like,
"DM: That reminds me, they say little Mica's gotten himself into a mess of corruption since I last saw him; I suppose you would claim to have something to do with that? HT: Would buy but he's in a few different tentacles by now : AN: yes, from what hes said it is partially the fault of HT for Mica's taking to corruption and dark magic, but he chose that path himself AN: personally I believe he can be saved, or at least stopped before he kills himself DM: Well, hasn't he gotten more interesting than when I knew him. HT: Interesting enough to start a collection on "
"[when asked why he wanted a picture of me] HT: Hey, up-and-coming stocks are worth investing in. &_&"
"HT: Best of luck toying with the bait of the decitimestamp, and good hunting, however much I want him to be mine. :33"
That's pretty damning evidence, unfortunately. So he may very well, as DS said, "want to make me one of his eternal slaves," which is terrifying. Though I guess not as terrifying as I thought, since he does keep his stolen souls still attached to the people they belong to and has them live in his dreambubble instead of eating them and keeping their shinies in jars or something--but no it's still pretty terrifying!! I bet they don't have any free will and he uses them for karaoke and "hentai" (to quote WA) and other weird degrading stuff because horrorterrors are evil!!!
Okay, um, got away from the point a little there. But basically, the only people who're acting predatory towards me or showing any kind of interest at all are WA and HT, who're both creeps that act that way towards a lot of other people too I think, so I just... really don't get where I picked up notoriety as "bait" Other than the imminent corruption potentially attracting Others thing, which is OVER now, I haven't been doing anything to garner the sort of attention the word would imply. So I guess, people can comment after this if they have potential explanations, because I'm very confused??
Also, um, what do you do if an Other wants you for their personal collection? This is kind of very frightening if I really think about what could happen, I really don't want to end up killing my friends because some Other corrupted me again

Can confirm that some horrorterrors who play at mimicking remotely human minds act 'evil' and that long-term contracting usually means your eternal servitude, but the overwhelming majority is simply 'not even remotely similar enough to comprehend without having to explain entirely alien concepts first' or 'doesn't really care unless you get close enough to annoy them'! Frankly having a bundle of whisperings of aspects you haven't played yet all up in my brain is usually not worth it but She knows so w/e, let's explain as best we can!
The short answer is you're just attractive in a way that makes you worth targeting! The long answer of how the hell that happens is both fundamentally disturbing and weird, plus how the not-physical-appearance attributes emerge isn't anyone's field of expertise 'cept maybe yours! Admit it they think you're hot lol!
If you're wanted in somebody's personal collection, you might as well work out tolerable terms (preferably including your free will at least during off-time, and not killing your friends) and accept before you're collected by trickery or force. Frankly it's the best way out of being a game puppet without having to permadie first (even if it's just one eldritch monstrosity for a master to another more literal one) and I both envy you and feel extremely squicked out. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you're wanted in somebody's personal collection, you might as well work out tolerable terms i'm gonna have to disagree here. personally i'm in the camp of "never make another deal with an Other for the rest of my life."
there's no reason you should think it's inevitable that you're gonna be snatched just because they want you. just like an unwanted human suitor, you still have free will and there are ways to keep them from getting their grabby appendages on you.
i'm just offering my two cents, sorry for hopping on your personal-ish log.
