❛❛ Step One: Be me. |
> ENTER NAME. Your name is Cade Belrose, and you're the most perfect man alive. You didn't always think so. No, before Sburb, you were sort of a pathetic guy, just passively accepting whatever life brought you and never really reaching for anything more. You enjoyed acting, getting to put on the mask of a character more interesting than yourself, but otherwise you were fairly unassuming. You didn't have the greatest life, relying on the stories of your amazing granddad's exploits and shows about flashy, costumed heroes to get you through your days. That all changed the day you decided to play a game with a group of people you were tangentially connected to. Suddenly, you were a hero, being swept along on an amazing quest centered entirely around you and your personal growth. The game, with all of its incomprehensible, universe-creating, godly powers, told you that you could reach your fullest potential by becoming a realized Thief of Hope--by learning to take what you want, and reject what you don't. You responded to the challenge with incredible enthusiasm--perhaps a little too much--rejecting your old, bland persona and creating a new, dazzling one. Admittedly, you got a little bit of a kickstart from the angels. Your land had the Hope-based glitch that rejected the code keeping the angels trapped in the Underworld, and they ran rampant across your land. Being a first time player with no access to guides, you had no idea that this was unusual, and figured that they were part of your quest as a Hope player. You got a little bit angel corrupted--not enough to become a Singer, but enough to make you act more charismatic and grandiose. After being cured, you decided you liked acting that way, and with the right attitude about it, it was great for your ARC. The door didn't work, you were stuck in the replay chain, yadda yadda. Honestly, you wouldn't have wanted to be stuck in a new universe with only your native coplayers for company. Sburb had its unpleasant parts, sure, but there were still plenty of pleasures to explore. You treated each new title as a role to act out, rather than let the game try to "teach you more lessons" or "make you mature", and you played through your sessions kicking ass and winning hearts. A few sessions in, you met a cute, mousy second sessioner named Mica, lost and confused after being denied the reward and being ripped away from his friends. You won him over, broke down his walls, and got him to fall for you, but... once the chase was over with, he was honestly kind of boring. He became infuriated with you for your superficial rejection, but that was his problem, not yours. A couple sessions later, you finally rolled into a session with a replayer who was connected to the networks, and they helped you get set up as well. |
